Plain Material is the home of haute yarn, celebrating the beauty of slow craftsmanship with a curated collection of luxury fibres. 

Founder, and Lead Curator is ex Director of Sustainability at Alexander McQueen, Audrey Clavedon.

Having spent over a decade immersed in the world of fashion and luxury brands she is well versed in haute couture craftmanship, but it wasn’t until she was expecting her daughter that she discovered knitting for herself. Driven to create her own heirloom pieces that could be handed down, she set out to source a yarn worthy of such creations.

“Our brushed silk yarn is the result of this journey, 15 years of expertise in sustainable fashion and luxury woven into the finest and most delicate fibre.” 

Plain Material was created to bring these haute yarns to the artisan knitting community, providing customers with the same standard of quality and luxury in raw materials upheld in fashion house collections, and Audrey’s own pieces:
