Plain Material was founded in the summer of 2024 in Somerset, Great Britain.

Audrey Clavedon, formerly Director of Sustainability at Alexander McQueen, created Plain Material from a simple conviction: that the material should always come first. Years spent at the heart of luxury fashion gave her an uncompromising eye for quality and a deep understanding of what makes truly exceptional fabric.

We believe in choosing well, in pieces made with knowledge and care, from materials worth investing in. For example, silk that feels different from the moment you touch it, and that only gets better with time.

Every material we offer is sourced from small, family-run suppliers who share our commitment to craft. Produced in small batches with close attention to detail, our fabrics are chosen to last.
