Plain Material was founded in the summer of 2024 in Somerset, Great Britain, with a commitment to slow living and exceptional craftsmanship.

Audrey Clavedon, our founder and lead curator, brings over a decade of experience in the sustainable fashion industry. Her role as Director of Sustainability at Alexander McQueen helped her develop a keen appreciation for quality and the detailed processes behind luxury materials, fueling her passion for manufacturing.

It was Audrey’s journey into motherhood that sparked her love for knitting. Driven by a desire to create beautiful, lasting heirloom pieces for her daughter, she sought out yarns that met her standards.

Her background in fashion led her to find small, family-run suppliers who are dedicated to quality. These suppliers craft yarns in small batches with great attention to detail, making them the perfect partners for Plain Material.
