Our Sustainability Manifesto

Our Approach to Sustainability

Sustainability in fashion is complex. After fifteen years working in sustainable materials at the highest level of the industry, we know that meaningful progress comes from rigorous sourcing decisions, honest supplier relationships, and a willingness to prioritise long-term impact over short-term convenience. That is the standard we hold ourselves to at Plain Material.

How we source

We work directly with a small number of trusted, family-run suppliers selected through years of industry knowledge and personal relationship. We understand their processes, their values, and their limitations. Our silk is produced in small batches, giving us full visibility over quality and minimising overproduction at source.

We trace our raw materials back to their country of origin. In an industry where supply chain opacity remains the norm, we consider this a baseline, not a differentiator.

How we think about longevity

We design for longevity, not trend. A Plain Material piece is intended to be worn for years, cared for properly, and kept. We believe the most sustainable product is simply one that is good enough to last.

Where we are headed

We are a young brand with serious ambitions. We are working to formally measure and disclose the environmental impact of our supply chain, and we will report on this transparently as the brand grows. We have no interest in making commitments we cannot stand behind.
